You will end up consuming a few hundred extra calories a day in this holiday season. No matter how much you try you will end up eating all the sweet meats and calorie-rich snacks offered. You can counter this calorie over drive by making sure you burn the same calories through physical activity.
Engage yourself in physical activities doing the Pre-Diwali clean up drive. Help the maid in sweeping, mopping and dusting to burn some extra calories. You must be busy with Diwali shopping these days. Park your car as far as you can from the shopping centre. Walk as much as you can. Take stairs instead of elevators whenever possible. Be creative in adding movement to your daily activities. Involve the whole family and make it fun too!
Of course while you do all this hard work you need to replenish your energy with good nutritious food. We tend to stray from our routine when the Diwali shopping and festivities take over. But don’t forget your multi vitamins or any other supplements you are taking regularly . You will undo the benefits gained in past and it will take longer to get back on track. Plus you need to eat healthy to have more energy for the daily celebrations!
Similarly if you are into a regular work out routine, you will feel pressured to give up on that. Don’t give up because you are not able to do that perfect workout! It’s okay to have a not so perfect routine. It’s not the end of the world. You may not have time for your full routine, so don’t do it! Exert yourself for 10 minutes if that’s all you have. Your body will still respond and all benefits won’t be lost.
The most important thing is to plan ahead. And you can do that since Diwali comes every year and is no surprise. Plan each day in advance to take out as little as ten minutes for yourself. And you will be fit and healthy well after all festivities are over. And you will find it much easier getting back to your perfect work out routine once the festival is over.
Have a fit and healthy Diwali this year!
